Lebel-sur-Quévillon is a young town with an active and dynamic population of about 3,800 people. It also has a number of potential resources to exploit in areas such as forestry, mining, business and tourism.

Its main economic activity is the forest industry, with the participation of Domtar Inc. and Abitibi Consolidated - Comtois Sector. Since 1995, the town diversifies its local economy with the development up of the Langlois Mine. The mining sector is growing in importance; active prospecting brings about discoveries that are increasingly promising for the future.

Forest Industry


Domtar Inc., with its pulp mill, sawmill and forest sector, remains the most important employer in Lebel-sur-Quévillon. The company's activities offer interesting advantages since wood is abundant and the black spruce of excellent quality. Domtar Inc. alone employs 58% of the workforce.

Other forestry related activities, such as tree planting and thinning, ensure forest regeneration. This way, Domtar Inc. and Abitibi Consolidated - Comtois Sector make sure the harvested territories will regenerate.Inc.


   

The Abitibi Consolidated - Comtois Sector sawmill is located close to Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Its state-of-the-art equipment ranks the sawmill among the most modern in Eastern Canada. It employs 20% of the workforce.

Mining Industry

Located in the mining basin of Abitibi, Lebel-sur-Quévillon benefits from important zinc, copper, gold and silver discoveries which allow the town to diversify its economy.


   

Langlois Mine, formerly called "the Grevet Project", is located 40 kilometres north-east of Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Owned by Ressources Breakwater Ltée, Langlois Mine is producing mainly zinc. It is expected to operate for 10 years and it employs about 15% of the workforce.

Industrial and Commercial Centre

Business people have excellent business opportunities in Lebel-sur-Quévillon. Industrial Tour

The Lebel-sur-Quévillon Kraft Pulp mill is the first installation Domtar Inc. completely built. Set up in the heart of the forest, on the Quévillon Lake shore, the mill produces Kraft pulp from bleached and unbleached softwood that is mainly used in the production of various high-quality papers as well as electrical insulating material and floor tiles backing. A guided tour of the installations will let you discover the process of manufacturing Kraft pulp, from chips to paper.
